When it seems that all is lost, and you have no hope, you need someone to look after your best interests. Be careful, misplaced loyalty can prove fatal.
Detective Patsy Hodge has left her old life behind to start a new job with Bristol CID. She attends a suspicious death with her new boss: straight-talking, no nonsense Detective Inspector John Meredith. Within days the body count begins to rise, as victims, old and new, are discovered to have died by lethal injection. Assisted suicide or euthanasia? Meredith calls it murder.
There is an attraction between the two detectives, who circle each other, but both Meredith and Hodge are carrying an enormous amount of emotional baggage, and soon their pasts threaten to overwhelm their future. As the investigation gathers pace, tension mounts within the team, and someone takes an unhealthy interest in Patsy, threatening her life, and she no longer knows who to trust.

What was your inspiration for this book?
A news report on TV. A young father and sportsman had a rare disease which left him unable to move except eyes and some movement of the head. After several years he'd had enough and wanted to be released. Euthanasia is not legal in the UK so he'd taken his case to the Supreme Court and lost. When this was announced he wept, and his despair will never leave me.
What if that were me? What would I do? My answer: Make sure I have someone I can trust to do the job when I'm ready to go.
Why did you decide to produce an audiobook?
I know so many people who listen to audio books, but rarely read – my hubby included – and I knew I had to offer readers this extra choice
How did you choose the reader for the book and the production company?
I'd been toying with producing an audio book for years, but could never find the time to go through the necessary. Then Lee Beddow got in touch on a totally separate matter, and everything came together. We're now working out way through the whole Meredith & Hodge series.
If you have listened to this book let us know what you think in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
